Gainesville man charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation of children

A Gainesville man was charged with 85 counts of sexual exploitation of children this week during a Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigation involving the suspect’s phones.

The Sheriff’s Office began the investigation in late-2019 after receiving a cybertip from the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The tip led to a device at the home of a registered sex offender in the 3,000 block of Truelove Road.

Investigators notified the Gainesville Field Office of the Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS). DCS officers met with the offender, Juan Daniel Martinez, 42, on Dec. 13, 2019, seized several phones from him and arrested him for a probation violation.

Through forensic processing of Martinez’s phones, Sheriff Office Investigators determined that Martinez possessed at least 85 images of children engaged in sexually explicit display and/or acts, both alone and with adults.

Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest on Monday, Jan. 6. He was served at the Hall County Jail, where he has remained incarcerated since his Dec. arrest.

The case remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
