Gainesville man arrested for explicit videos of children on phone

A Gainesville man faces three counts of sexual exploitation of children as the result of a Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigation that culminated with his arrest this week.

Leonel Engelbert Leal, 27, was arrested by Hall County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit Deputies at his residence in the 4,000 block of Martin Road on Monday afternoon, March 23. Sheriff’s Office

Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest earlier in the day.

The charge is the result of an ongoing investigation into a Dec. 11, 2019, aggravated battery case in the 3,000 block of Del Rio Drive. Leal was arrested and charged in connection with the 2019 incident on Dec. 12 and was released on $5,700 bond on Dec. 13.

In late December, Sheriff’s Office Investigators obtained a search warrant for Leal’s phone because he recorded video of the battery incident. During recently completed forensic processing of his phone, Investigators found at least three videos depicting a minor engaged in sexually explicit acts.

Leal remained in the Hall County Jail early Tuesday afternoon, March 24.

The case remains under Investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
